Black Flag: Mergers/Buyouts and this 'n that

by Paul Jensen

Other than the Roush-Fenway deal, I can't think of any of these NASCAR mergers/buyouts that have worked. When you combine two organizations that have been making poor decisions, you wind up with one larger organization making poor decisions. DEI-Ginn is an example of that.

We'll have to see what happens with the combination of DEI and Ganassi. Neither of these organizations have done spit in several years. How Ganassi can be so good elsewhere and so mediocre in NASCAR is beyond me.

Gillette-Evernham has been making poor decisions, as has Petty Enterprises. Now I'm cheering for the King as much as anybody, but they need to start making better decisions. They hired some great people, but that Boston Ventures deal was a complete disaster.

I love Richard Petty, but I think his decision to stay out of the Nationwide Series for so many years because it was sponsored by an alcoholic beverage was a mistake. It's hard to imagine what the cheaters at the Snowball Derby in Pensacola FL were thinking. Richie Wauters said he doesn't have to cheat to win. Oh yeah? Then why has he been tossed out of the place two years in a row? And what was Kyle Busch thinking when his team put two illegal electric fans in the car he owned this year? I was starting to soften on my opinion of Kyle, but now I'm thinking cheater...

Am hearing that a couple of skyboxes are still available for the 2009 season over at Clayhill Motorsports...
