Finally, the 2009 racing season can move forward at the Nashville fairgrounds.
Danny Denson of Full Throttle Race Parts was awarded the contract Thursday by the Tennessee State Fair Board of Commissioners. Denson is expected to sign the actual lease by Monday, according to fairgrounds executive director Buck Dozier. The lease will run through December 31st.
Denson said he expects to have more races this year, but the races will not be sanctioned by NASCAR because of the cost involved. We do not yet know if that means the fairgrounds track will be removed from the list of tracks where NASCAR testing is banned.
Races will have a curfew and mufflers will be required.
This means the end of the line for Joe Mattioli, who had operated the track through 2008. (1/29/2009)
