Trackside at Las Vegas: Marlin misses field again

By Paul Jensen

Frustration would be a good word to describe Sterling Marlin after failing to qualify for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race for the second week in a row.

The Columbia TN driver will not get a chance for a second Las Vegas win this weekend as he missed the field for the Shelby 427. His qualifying run of 181.543 mph in the #09 Phoenix Racing Dodge was not good enough.

Marlin joins Travis Kvapil, Dave Blaney, Mike Garvey, Jeremy Mayfield, Scott Riggs, Tony Raines and Dexter Bean in going home early.

Todd Bodine was the slowest go-or-go-home car to make the field when he qualified at 183.231 mph.

Kyle Busch won the pole in the #18 Joe Gibbs Racing M&M's Toyota after qualifying at 185.995 mph, but he'll have to start the race in the back of the field because they changed engines before qualifying.
