After a poor qualifying run put Jason Keller in the 35th starting position, the Baker Curb Racing team got off to a fast start Friday in the NASCAR Nationwide Dollar General 300 Powered By Coca-Cola at Chicagoland Speedway.
25 laps into the 200-lap event, Keller was in the top 20. It was a race with long green-flag runs, which played into the Baker Curb team's hands. By mid-race Keller was complaining of the car being free on entry and tight center off. The longer the green flag runs, the faster the car became.
The race only had two cautions, opening with a 93-lap green run, followed by an 89-lap run. Green flag pit stops were the rule of the evening.
A night's worth of work was almost wasted late in the race when Keller was nabbed for speeding on pit road. There were problems with the tachometer in the car all night and the team had been guessing as to their pit road speed.
Even with the penalty, Keller managed to save a top-20 finish, crossing the finish line in 19th.
Eric McClure also finished ahead of where he started, winding up 31st in the #24 Rensi Hamilton Racing Hefty Ford. He had started 38th.
Casey Atwood parked the #05 Day Enterprises 31-W Insulation Ford after 19 laps with overheating problems. He was credited with a 37th-place finish.
Joey Logano won the race in the #20 Joe Gibbs Racing GameStop/Wii Sports Resort Toyota. Click here for complete results. (7/10/2009)
