Middle Tennessee Racing Scene: Sammy Sanders dominates Ken-Ten at Beech Bend

It was the Sammy Sanders show again Friday night at Beech Bend Raceway Park.

Sammy set the AR Bodies fast time of the 17 cars that timed in for the Ken-Ten Late Model event, with a 15:687 second lap.

On the first start of the first 50-lap feature, Kevin Willis went spinning, forcing another complete restart. The next start was good with Sammy in 1st, Davey Coble 2nd, Josh Byrns 3rd, Michael Driskell 4th and Chris Harmon rounding out the top 5.

Caution flew on lap 25 for the spinning car of DBV Properties Rookie contender Mason Mingus. On the double file restart Brian Cherry made a three-wide move off of turn 2 with Driskell being the meat and Harmon on the outside. Harmon and Driskell were both able to drive off but needed some major work.

The yellow flew again when Mark Oliver spun in turn 2. Bo Miller dropped off the pace on lap 46 but stayed on the lead lap, playing for the invert. Sanders won his 4th in a row. Coble and Byrns had their best runs of the year. Coble finished 2nd and Byrns was 3rd, Cherry was 4th and DBV Properties Rookie of the race Josh Brock was 5th in the first feature.

15 cars started the second 50-lapper, with Miller on the pole and Marty Taylor on the outside. Brian Royalty started 3rd, and Cherry 4th.

Caution flew on lap 5. On the restart, the #53 car of Taylor, the #121 car of Dennis White and the #66 car of Kevin Willis make contact with Willis hitting hard into the backstretch wall ending his night.

On lap 18 the #7D car of Driskell came to the pits with overheating problems. Lap 29 saw a new leader as Sanders came to the front running laps as quickly as 16.03 seconds. At the checkers it was Sanders, Miller, Royalty, Byrns and Coble making up the top five. (7/4/2009)(Ken-Ten PR)
