In the Late Model world, when the majority of the racing series are closing out their seasons, race teams are far from hanging up their tools as well. Attention is turned not to a relaxing break from the grind of full time racing, but instead to gearing up for a handful of prestigious special events. The annual Snowball Derby, along with its companion race, the Snowflake 100, are at the top of everyone’s mind when the weather starts to hinder racing in most of the country. Dillon Oliver Motorsports announced today their plans to haul south to compete in the Snowflake 100 at the historic Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola FL.With the family owned #33 Chevy finding its way to victory lane in the previous three races it has competed in, Dillon Oliver looks to build upon his recent success by running with the biggest names in late model racing. The momentum that has been built by the 20 year old driver out of Bowling Green KY comes from two consecutive ASALMS Challenge series victories at the Iowa Speedway and Memphis Motorsports Park where he was crowned “King of the Short Tracks.” Dillon also gained another victory at the Bobby Hamilton Memorial 125, which was held at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
“It was sort of a last minute deal to head south for the Snowflake, but with the roll that we have been on, and the success that we have had, it was something that we all really wanted to go and take a shot at,” Dillon said.
Oliver had a strong showing at the Snowflake last year by winning the Last Chance race, which he was in due to a miscall on his qualifying set up. In the feature race Oliver started in the 32nd position and in 3 laps was being scored in the 21st spot when a wreck in front of him caused him to check up. When the #33 slowed to avoid the incident another competitor was unable to do the same and collided with Oliver, ending his chances for the day.
Dillon hopes to have another strong showing this year at the Snowflake on a major stage in the racing community. Sponsorship deals are currently in the works to fund his run at four in a row, and any inquiries regarding sponsorship can be emailed to Info@turn4designs.com. (11/24/2009)(turn4designs PR)
